Secret War wins MEA Lee Award

I know it’s been a long time since I rapped at ya (as the Onion’s Jim Anchower used to say), but I thought I’d start with good news. The Secret War Between Downloading and Uploading won the 2013 Dorothy Lee Award for Outstanding Scholarship in the Ecology of Culture from the Media Ecology Association. The nomination states that the book encourages a “shift from consumption to production models of interaction with digital culture, outlining ways to achieve ‘mindful’ downloading and promoting … ‘meaningful’ uploading,” and is “not only the most important book of Lunenfeld’s career, it is a summation of what we could call the era of ‘full’ computing.” Previous winners of the Lee Award include New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman and anthropologist Tom Boellstorff.
